Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner Level
Are you looking for a fun and inspiring way to get your kids' creative juices flowing? Look no further! Our new art class is perfect for both budding artists and those who have never considered themselves artistic.

Our class is all about exploring creativity with no expectations for what the final project should look like. Each project is completely open-ended and process-oriented, allowing your child to experiment and get into the creative zone. And the best part? They can repeat the projects as many times as they like and still get different results!

Your child will gain expertise and confidence in drawing through experimentation and play. There are no right or wrong results, so they can truly let their imagination run wild and take their artwork to a whole new level.

Each week, we'll have fun and freeing creative exercises to develop your child's artistic eye and voice. We'll use a variety of mixed media techniques including pencil, pen, colored pencil, marker, watercolor, crayon, and oil pastel. Don't worry about supplies, we'll let you know what you need at least one week in advance of each lesson.

At the end of each class, your child will be invited to share their creations and observations with their teacher and classmates. And check out our schedule of projects! From Sidewalk Crack Drawings to Name Aliens, we've got something for everyone.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up now and let your child's creativity soar!

Learning Goals
Develop creativity: Encourage children to explore their creativity through open-ended projects and process-oriented learning, gaining confidence in their own artistic abilities.

Improve drawing skills: Help children gain expertise in drawing by experimenting with different media, techniques, and subject matter, while also allowing them to learn from their mistakes.

Expand artistic horizons: Introduce children to a range of mixed media techniques, including pencil, pen, colored pencil, marker, watercolor, crayon, and oil pastel, and encourage them to try new things in their art.

Foster collaboration: Provide opportunities for children to share their work with others and receive feedback from their peers, while also learning from their classmates' creative approaches and perspectives.

Develop a growth mindset: Encourage children to embrace mistakes and challenges as opportunities for growth and experimentation, rather than as failures. Help them understand that there are no right or wrong answers in art, and that the creative process is just as important as the final product.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a fellow homeschool mom, I'm excited to share that I've been homeschooling for 19 years and have plenty of experience under my belt. I'm also an artist and photographer with a passion for fine art, photography, and art education. I love teaching children's art classes and have done so both privately and through local after school and children's museum programs.

My work has even been featured in Parents Magazine and on numerous photography blogs! I'm all about finding connections between things that may not seem related at first glance. To do that, I like to break things down into their simplest parts and look for similarities. This helps me turn seemingly complicated projects into simple, step-by-step lessons that are easy for kids to understand.

I also have a great sense of humor and love to infuse silliness into my lessons and artwork. I appreciate the irony in both art and life and try to bring that lightheartedness to everything I do. So, whether you're just starting out or have been homeschooling for a while, I'm here to share my knowledge and make your homeschooling journey a fun and creative one!

For parents whose children attend traditional schools, you may be wondering how my experience as a homeschool mom and artist can benefit your family. Well, as an art educator, I strongly believe that creativity is an essential component of a child's education, regardless of whether they are homeschooled or attend traditional schools. Incorporating art and creative projects into your child's learning can help them develop critical thinking skills, enhance their problem-solving abilities, and encourage self-expression.

Furthermore, my years of experience in teaching children's art classes have taught me how to create fun and engaging projects that your child can enjoy even outside of a homeschool setting. So, whether you're looking to enhance your child's education at home or simply want to find ways to incorporate more creativity into their day-to-day lives, I'm here to share my knowledge and passion for art education with you and your family.
