Screenwriting Summer Camp: Learn How to Write a Screenplay!

Could your child be the next Academy Award-winning screenwriter? 

Intro to Screenwriting will cover screenwriting basics, including story structure, necessary components, and proper formatting. 

What makes a great hook? What must be accomplished in Act I, Act II, and Act III? How do I make dialogue believable?

Students will watch clips, compare them to excerpts from screenplays, and learn how to outline and "break-down" a film's structure. Furthermore, they will learn how to operate a free screenwriting word processor so they do not have to use a clunky template in Microsoft Word! 

Students will begin writing their own screenplay in this course and will have a chance to workshop their ideas with other students. Students will be expected to show up to class ready to talk about their ideas, share some of their pages, read other students' work, and discuss their classmate's ideas with empathy and respect. 

Two weeks is not enough time to write a full screenplay, but students will be pushed to write as much as possible and leave with the tools they need to continue working.

Week 6: 
- Film Analysis, Effective Endings & Student Work Roundtable

Week 7: 
- Film Analysis, Effective Endings & Student Work Reviews

Week 8: 
- Students Present Final Works & Readings
