We will brainstorm roller coasters in the class that the student can elaborate on in their spare time and share with me. I am more than happy to see and give feedback for their ideas!Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 8
Note: If you do not see a time that works for your schedule, feel free to click on “show alternative times” above and schedule the class. Everyone loves a thrilling ride on a roller coaster. This class will go into the equally exciting history from the very first scream machines at the turn of last century to the modern mechanical wonders of today. We will track the milestones of coasters such as the first looping coaster, the first computerized coaster, the first coaster to reach 90mph, and much more. Along the way we will ask questions such as: What makes a roller coaster exciting? How do designers pace a roller coaster? What are the psychological elements of story telling that coasters use to achieve full impact? At the end we will brainstorm our own roller coasters together. This is a teacher led lecture that will be accompanied with pictures and video clips in a fast-paced presentation. There will be opportunity for students to participate, and several short fun games along the way to help remember what we have learned. Even if your child is more of a watcher of coasters than a rider, there will be plenty of interesting things to discover. So climb aboard, but keep your hands and arms inside your zoom window at all times!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a theme park enthusiast who has visited many theme parks and ridden dozens of roller coasters. I have written articles about theme parks for websites, as well as worked at several theme parks. My favorite roller coaster is Lightning Rod at Dollywood, but it’s a tough call cause I love so many.
