Class Experience

Beginner Level
This one-time class will be held for a single learner. I will walk learners through how to create a Scratch project and key elements to make a game. We will start a project together.

A computer desktop or laptop is preferred for coding. Tablets and iPads don't always work properly with some of the games on Scratch. The device used for coding must have a keyboard. It is preferred that learners have a second monitor to view the instructor's screen shared through Outschool's Zoom. If that is not an option, resizing the Scratch window alongside Zoom will allow you to view both windows.

**Students need to create a free, online Scratch account before meeting. A parent will need to confirm this account for the learner to be able to save their project.
Https://scratch.mit.edu** Please message if you need assistance creating a Scratch account.

Parental Guidance
Learners need to have a Scratch account already created prior to our session. Please send me a message upon enrollment sharing your child's experience and skill levels. Parental assistance may be needed for learners new to Scratch, computer use, or benefiting from assistance navagating a website. It is preferred that learners follow my screen share using Outschool's Zoom. Dual monitors are preferred but one screen would work with the windows resized. If possible please navigate this step prior to our session so your child with be familiar with the process.

I have worked as an educator for over 27 years. I have taught learners from age 3 through age 16 in a variety of settings including public school, preschool, technology enrichment programs, computer coding classes, and robotics STEM camps. As a small farmer owner, I educate youth in homesteading and animal care. I have 2 amazing children with very different interests. My oldest is academically gifted. She is very in involved in art and music and currently following an educational path to become a veterinarian. My youngest is 2e. He is academically gifted and dyslexic. He is an athlete heavily involved in STEM, following an educational path to become a physicist. I originally came to the Outschool platform to search for classes for my kiddos. I was so impressed that I joined as an educator.

I have a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education grades 1-6 and Master Degree in Educational Technology and Research. I have been licensed to teach in Florida and North Carolina. I obtained additional certifications in teaching Gifted and Talented Students for grades K-12, Technology Endorsement grades K-12, and School Library Media Specialist grades K-12.
