Class Experience

In this 4-day interactive course, students will learn how to create animations, games, and interactive projects using Scratch, a beginner-friendly programming language. Each session is one hour long and includes live demonstrations, hands-on coding, fun challenges, and class discussions. On Day 1, students will learn the basics, such as moving sprites. On Day 2, they’ll dive into events, loops, and adding sounds/colors. Day 3 focuses on building a simple game with scores and interactions, and on Day 4, students will create their own final project, adding effects and showcasing their work. The class is designed to be highly interactive, encouraging students to follow along, ask questions, and share their projects with the group. This is the perfect opportunity for beginners to learn coding in a fun, engaging way!

Learning Goals

Identify and use key elements such as the stage, sprites, blocks, and scripts to create projects.
Implement event blocks like “when green flag clicked” or “when sprite clicked” to trigger animations and interactions.

Syllabus

4 Lessons
over 1 Week
Lesson 1:
Getting Started
This beginner-friendly class introduces students to Scratch, a fun and interactive way to learn coding. Students will explore the Scratch interface, understand basic concepts like sprites, blocks, and the stage, and learn how to make a sprite move using simple drag-and-drop coding blocks. By the end of the class, students will have created their first interactive animation, setting the foundation for future projects.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Making Things Happen
In this class, students will learn how to make their Scratch projects come to life using events, loops, sounds, and colors. They will discover how to start actions with event blocks, make sprites move continuously with loops, and add fun effects like sounds and color changes. By the end of the session, students will create a simple animated scene using these new skills.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Simple Game Basics
In this class, students will take their Scratch skills to the next level by creating a simple interactive game. They will learn how to make sprites react when clicked or touched, add a score system, and use basic rules to make the game fun and engaging. By the end of the session, students will have built a small game, like catching a moving object.
60 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Create Your Own Project
In this final class, students will apply everything they’ve learned to create their own mini-game or animation. They will add backgrounds, sounds, and effects to make their projects more exciting. At the end of the session, students will have a chance to showcase and share their work.
60 mins online live lesson
