In this class, students use Scratch to code their own interactive stories, animations, and games. In the process, they learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. Each session we’ll create a new project in order to accomplish these goals, and students will learn how to use motion, looks, sound, events, control, sensing, variable, and operator code blocks and will identify the function of function of a loop, cloning and conditional code. Students will learn how to use motion, looks, sound, events, control, sensing, variable, and operator code blocks and will identify the function of cloning and conditional code.
Students will always be provided with additional code challenges they can focus on to improve their skills between sessions, but homework is always optional.
A desktop, laptop computer or iPad with a keyboard. High-speed Internet required for Zoom and a free Scratch account. Chrome browser is preferred but Safari will work on iPad.
We focus on project-based teaching, inquiry-based learning and a strong focus on mastery. Students show what the learn in each session with the project they make.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
