This super simple, one-time Scratch Jr. class is meant for kindergarten-aged students who are new to Scratch Jr. Scratch Jr. is a visual block coding language meant for pre-readers. Students who learn Scratch Jr. are able to make simple animations and games of their own. Students will learn some of the basic coding blocks with Scratch Jr. to create an interactive and animated poster for their favorite animal. This class will cover: -Adding backgrounds/characters -Editing backgrounds/characters -CREATING their own backgrounds/characters -Using motion blocks -Making characters and objects act when touched -Adding sound to a project that will play in response to an event Through screen sharing, I will demonstrate the techniques to create the "poster." The students will take what they learned to create their own project for their favorite animal.

External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Meagan Khatthaname and I am an elementary teacher who is now teaching fourth grade. I am a former computer teacher who loves teaching Scratch coding and computer skills!
Beginner Scratch courses
I will be offering various Scratch courses for students to learn the basics of Scratch and how to make games and projects. Send me a question to ask about private classes, too!
Homeschool Computer classes
I offer private computer classes for students who are homeschooled or want to supplement their regular classes with computer/tech classes. I also have some group Google slides classes.
I received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education from UMKC in 2013
I taught in a brick and mortar public school for 6 years as a 4th-grade classroom teacher then a computer and STEM teacher.
I am TESOL certified (since 2015)
I taught ESL online for 3 years, but I'm now back into the classroom teaching 4th grade again!
When it comes to kids' learning, the sky is truly the limit. Too often I think kids are underestimated in just what they can accomplish. Giving children the opportunity to explore their talents and interests is such an important thing! As an educator, I have felt that exploring a child's strengths is the best way to help them succeed in life. Fostering a child's interests into lifelong skills not only helps them succeed but allows them to feel empowered and confident!
