Class Experience In this introduction class, students will learn the basics of Scratch coding and create a MAZE game! Once complete, students will guide their sprite through a maze they have created - but they must avoid the bomb or they have to start over. This course is geared towards the beginner coder, and no experience with coding is necessary!. We will show how to use the different colored blocks to make your 'sprite' move across the screen. You will learn how to make the sprite move ry across the screen and control the sprite to avoid the bomb. You will learn how to create a variable to keep score. Prepare to have fun!! **Parents, please make sure your child has signed up on the Scratch website before our class. Also, your child should either have 2 screens available or know how to split the screen on one device. Please let me know if you need help. I want your child to be successful Please note - a computer with a keyboard is necessary for this lesson

-Students should know how to have 2 windows open at a time, or have 2 screens available.
- One window is for Zoom, the other is where they will create their Scratch program
- A keyboard is necessary for this course

- Notice: Please be on time for class. It is not fair for learners that are on-time to have to stop and wait until a late arrival catches up. This can take a fair amount of time depending on the knowledge level of the learner. For this reason, I do not accept late arrivals. Hi, my name is Dan Hartman. I have many years of experience as an elementary and middle school technology teacher (Pk-8). I have a bachelor's degree from Penn State in Computer Science and over 25years of working in the computer science world. For years I have been bringing the joy of coding into PK-8 classrooms, with my passion for teaching technology and a skill for turning learning into an adventure, I inspire young minds to explore the digital world with creativity and curiosity.
I always try to make my teaching fun; students will see me wearing different hats and wigs to liven things up. I was a kid once, too and I can relate that it can be intimidating trying to warm up to a new teacher. In my classes, we will joke a bit and have a good time. But guess what, you will learn how to code.
Last but not least, I realize that not all students pick up everything as quickly, so I try not to leave anyone hanging. I will often extend class sessions for one or a couple students. We can even zoom in at another time. My approach is that no student should leave without understanding the material.
