Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
MIT created a simple block based coding platform to help young kids understand and develop the much needed skill in coding. Catering to the higher order thinking skills, each of these games adhere to creativity as well as codig logic complexities. The learners will start slow but gain pace in a steady way to be able to comprehend difficult coding challenges.
The learner does not need prior coding skills but it would be good if they have used the computer mouse before and know how to click , drag and drop. They should also have basic reading skills for their age to be able to read the block names.
Device : Computer with a webcam. Tablets will not work for some games.
You will be required to create a free sign in on the scratch platform in order to save your projects.
The class flow for the game creations is as per the learner's skills :

Day 1 and 2 - Learning how to add sounds and effects to a game : Coin Collecting Game
Day 3 and 4 - Changing costumes and broadcasting messages : Hungry Shark Game
Day 5 - Video sensing extension usage : Forest of Danger game
Day 6 and 7 - Applying moving backgrounds : Bounce Game
Day 8 and 9 - Making a 2 player game : Pong Game
Day 10 and 11 - Creating clones : Rock Blaster Game
Day 12: Making objects as one entity : Hill Climb Car racing game

The teacher has more game designs in each category and topic and learners can choose whichever ones they want to create. The learner can also make their own request in what kind of games would they like. In case the learner has their own request they can inform the teacher in advance and the teacher will help in creating that specific game.
