US Grade Kindergarten - 3
In this class, we will learn about a different scientific discovery or invention from history each week. We will study the people involved in making the discovery and the science involved in it. I will provide handouts each week so that students can keep a record of what we are learning. We will end the 9-week class with students sharing about ideas for what they would like to invent or discover. Students will be encouraged to make a drawing or model of their invention idea or what they hope to discover. Weekly Topic and Scientist Week 1 - Gravity, Isaac Newton Week 2 - Electricity, Michael Faraday Week 3 - Penicillin, Alexander Fleming Week 4 - X-rays, Wilhelm Roentgen Week 5 - Radioactivity, Marie Curie Week 6 - Velcro, George de Mestral Week 7 - DNA Double Helix, Rosalind Franklin Week 8 - GPS, Gladys West Week 9 - Students discuss ideas for their own inventions I will use google slides presentations, books (excerpts from DK's 100 Scientists who made history), short videos, class discussion, and Kahoot games to teach about each scientist or inventor. I love involving students in class discussions by asking questions. My goal is for students to learn about these scientist and hopefully be inspired to think about what they could invent someday. I enjoy teaching science to elementary students and I believe that an early love of science builds a foundation for future success!
Learning Goals
