Class Experience

In this fun and exciting science class, we will make apple volcanoes erupt! We will start class with a basic discussion on what chemistry is, as well as what a science experiment is used for.

We will make a hypothesis, or guess, on what will happen when we add ingredients to the apples. Then we will observe the fun happening in front of our eyes! After, we will discuss and compare the results of the apples.

This class will be hands on and interactive. There will be discussion throughout, giving every child many opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving.

I enjoy interactive classes where the children can engage in conversation while learning! This must be done in a respectful manner to ensure all children have the opportunity to listen and learn. I love to laugh and be silly, and I encourage all children to be themselves. If your child is shy and does not want to interact, I am okay with that too! We will work to find the balance in the classroom to help each child with their own learning style.

No prior knowledge is required.

If your child loves science, check out my other science experiment classes! I also have other apple classes that touch on math with the seeds, and a STEM challenge.

Learning Goals

Students will learn the different parts of a science experience, such as the hypothesis and observation. They will get to work hands on with this experiment, teaching them about chemical reaction and cause and effect. They will also learn how to make an apple erupt.

Supply List
Supplies Needed:
* A Red Apple and a Green Apple
*Baking Soda
*Vinegar
*Drop of Dish Soap
*Something to put apples in or on (to catch all the fizz that comes out)

***Before class, parents will need to cut out a hole/vessel from the top of the apples that goes about halfway down. Basically you are cutting around the stem and down a little to make a cone like shape and this is where the children will pour the ingredients.)
