Science With Miss Robyn: Winter Science Camp

Winter is here where I live, so I thought a winter science camp would be fun to teach. In this 3 day winter science camp, the kids will learn about and complete activities about snow, snowflakes, and how animals stay warm. I will begin the first day of our camp with introductions and how our camp will be structured. The kids will learn about the chemistry behind fake snow and real snow learn about the science behind snowflakes learn about the physics concepts of heat transfer and thermal insulation

1 file available upon enrollmentTwo large plastic or glass containers (large bowls) Measuring cups Baking soda Measuring spoons: a teaspoon and a tablespoon Sticky note or masking tape Pen or pencil Dishwashing soap Vinegar scissors printer paper (white or your choice of color) borax hot water (from the faucet or tap is fine) 2 6mm pipe cleaners (chenille stems) (white, light blue, ) string pencils or chopsticks 2 drinking glasses (8 oz or more) or 2 jars (8 oz or larger) spoon for stirring the borax into the water Four zipper-lock sandwich bags ( resealable plastic bags) Four small plates filled with ice cubes Small feathers (craft feathers are fine) , cotton balls, or aluminum foil Quarter pound of butter (one stick) at room temperature or 1 stick of shortening like Crisco brand.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The kids will be using scissors when cutting out their paper snowflakes. We will be using kitchen utensils, hot water, vinegar, and baking soda. Please read the supply list so that you can determine if there are any potential allergens for you child/children.
