In this 4 day class the kids will learn about different chemical reactions. Each meeting we will complete a safe chemistry experiment that shows different chemistry concepts. At the beginning of class, I will share my screen so the kids can view a slideshow while we discuss the experiment and the chemistry concepts. I have taught science as an elementary public school teacher and to middle and high school students in my home school co-op. I am also a certified teacher in the state of Texas.
2 files available upon enrollmentDay 1 Washing soda-- found in the laundry detergent aisle in stores Epsom salts-- can be found in stores with the personal care products like soap, etc Warm Water (1 cup) 2 clear drinking glasses or plastic cups Food coloring Eye dropper/ pipette Measuring spoons Masking tape Pencil or pen Day 2-- Empty 20-ounce plastic bottle or glass bottle( 16 oz is fine too) Ex: Soft drink bottle , other drinks that come in bottles can be used; don't use 2 liter bottles 1/2 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution (available at nearly any store) 1 Packet of active yeast (from the grocery store) Liquid dishwashing detergent ( dish soap, washing up liquid) 3-6 tablespoons of warm water tablespoon measuring spoon Food coloring Measuring cups (1/4 cup and 1/2 cup Funnel to put in bottle A deep baking dish (square or rectangular; at least a few inches deep) Day 3-- Measuring cups or 2 cup measuring glass Measuring spoons: ¼ teaspoon, ½ teaspoon, 1 teaspoon, 1 tablespoon Baking soda Lemon juice 2 sandwich size resealable plastic bag ( Ziploc for example) Paper towels or dish towel for cleaning spills Day 4 Purple grape juice (1-2 cups) 4 drinking glasses, 4 clear plastic cups, 4 small jars ( 8 oz) OR 4 250 mL beakers Baking soda Washing soda Can be found in the laundry detergent section of stores Lemon juice ¼ cup Vinegar ¼ cup Water (2 cups)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Kids may need help using some of the materials that are being used in the classes. We will be using 3% hydrogen peroxide , active yeast, citric acid, and other supplies. I use Google Drive, Google Slides, Google Docs in my classes.
