This class is taught in English.
To learn about the chemistry behind ice cream and to have fun!
I have taught ice cream making to kids of all ages as a teacher, 4-H leader, Scout leader, and with my high school chemistry classes at my local homeschool co-op.
2 files available upon enrollment1 cup of Half and Half – OR you can use 1/2 whole milk and 1/2 cream. 1.5 tsp vanilla extract 1 tbsp sugar ice ( 4-6 cups) 1/4 cup rock salt (like Morton's rock salt for ice cream) Ziploc bags 1-quart size and 1-gallon size (make sure the bags will seal completely so that the salty ice water does not get into the ice cream bag) towel oven mitts or gloves ( winter gloves or mittens will work; you will want the kids to keep their hands warm) spoon any "stir-ins" to stir into your ice cream after it is made: crumbled cookies, marshmallows, chocolate chips, sliced fruit, etc
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will be using kitchen supplies. Kids made need help with sealing the plastic baggies. The recipe uses half and half, but almond milk may be used. I haven't made the recipe with any other plant based milks.
