Beginner Level
In this 5 day course, the kids will be introduced to geology as they join me on an expedition of Earth's layers. Each day we will focus on a different layer of the Earth and do a related activity in class. I use visual graphics such as photos, slideshows, etc so that the kids can see examples of the concepts we are learning about in class. I like to ask the kids questions about our class topics, and I encourage them to share their knowledge of the topics because that is how we learn. The supplies are listed in the supply list as well as a pdf in the classroom. Please send me a message if you have any questions about the class or supplies. ****Friends and Siblings**** All learners must be enrolled in the class in order to be fair to the other enrolled learners.

over 1 WeekLesson 1:
What is Geology?
The kids will learn about Earth's structure and its layers. We will
focus on the inner and outer cores.
The kids will create a model of Earth's structure using different colors Play-Doh or clay. 45 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Earth's Mantle
The kids will learn facts about the mantle.
The focus of this meeting is volcanoes.
The kids will make a volcano in class that uses a chemical reaction to make the lava flow. 45 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Earthquakes
We will discuss what causes earthquakes and make an earthquake simulation in class. 45 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Earth's Crust
Minerals
We will learn about minerals: what they are, and how they're made, how to grow halite crystals. 45 mins online live lesson
Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will be using white distilled vinegar, baking soda, scissors, salt, ,and warm water. Please see the complete class supply list that is posted in the classroom as a PDF.
