Earthworms can be small, and we may forget about them, but they are important to soil. In this 2 day class, the kids will be introduced to ecology, the study of the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings, by learning about earthworms and soil. Day 1: The kids will learn about the natural history of earthworms such as their lifecycle. We will watch a video of earthworms so the kids can make observations about the worms. 1 copy of the facts about worms...
2 files available upon enrollmentDirt Cups chocolate pudding ( or a chocolate mousse, chocolate custard or chocolate panna cotta) This can be cooked, instant, or store bought. The serving size is your choice, but a 1/2 cup would be good. bowl or other container for the chocolate pudding, mousse, custard or panna cotta chocolate sandwich cookies such as Oreos ( 3-4) gummy worms (3-4) Soil Sample: 1 cup of soil taken from your yard/garden or other place small cup of water 1 small plate (dinner plate or saucer; paper is fine) paper towels or cloth towel for cleaning up spills and hands 1 copy of each worksheet ; they are in the classroom as a pdf pencils with eraser
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The kids will be making edible dirt cups which are made with chocolate pudding (chocolate mousse, chocolate custard or chocolate panna cotta) . Also, chocolate sandwich cookies such as Oreos and gummy worms.
