In this four week course, students will learn how the Sun works with Earth's atmosphere to cause different weather conditions. Class will be conducted through the use of NearPod interactive slides and will involve discussion, games, and hands on activities. We will start week one with how the Sun's energy powers the water cycle that leads to precipitation by making a model using common household materials. In week two, students will learn about the forms of precipitation, create a rain gauge and/or a snow gauge, and participate in a Kahoot game to assess learning. Week three will focus on how the Sun causes wind through heating and cooling of the atmosphere. They will make wind vanes and anemometers to measure wind in their area, and explore live weather data from the National Weather Service.  We will conclude in week four learning about pressure systems and jet streams, analyzing weather maps and how those maps help meteorologists to predict future weather conditions. Throughout the course, each student will keep a weather journal of conditions in their area that we will share at the beginning of each class. The final activity will be an interactive game to assess course content.
