Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
This intro physics classes focuses on basic kinematics and forces. Students will learn about how all objects- including us, experience a force all the time and everyday and how we can manipulate these different forces around us. Ultimately, my biggest goal with the class is to show learners that “Science Matters!” and that there are applications of science all around us in real life.
I’m a recent graduate of Pomona College with a dual Bachelor's degree in Physics + Musical Theatre Dance. My unique educational background in both STEM and the arts have given me an extensive array of experience in subjects ranging from Math (Calculus III / Linear Algebra) to Science (Chemistry / Physics) to Dance (Musical Theatre, Ballet, Hip Hop) to Cooking / Baking. Over the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a range of students from 1-22 years old, in many different contexts, such as an ESL and Geography teacher at Cornerstone academic academy, a homeschool science teacher, a dance instructor, and most extensively as a private academic tutor. I am incredibly enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge with eager learners of all ages!
As this is an interactive lab-based class, learners will need the following materials for class: 1. scissors 2. marshmallows, or any small light items such as goldfish, cotton balls, raisins, etc 3. balloon (not blown) 4. 2 small paper cups OR 1 plastic cup 5. tape 6. recommended: pencil, eraser, and paper for taking notes :)
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be using scissors for our lab experiment during class. Please make sure your student can safely use this item :)
