Class experience

This class is taught in English.
This elementary-level meteorology class focuses on wind. Students will learn about how wind works, why it is important, and the tools used to measure it. Students will have the chance to create their very own wind tool during class as well. Ultimately, my biggest goal with the class is to show learners that “Science Matters!” and that meteorology is a fantastic way to see the application of science in real life.
As an educator and tutor with 8+ years of experience, I am incredibly enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge with eager learners of all ages! I’m a recent graduate of Pomona College with a dual Bachelor's degree in Physics + Musical Theatre Dance. My unique educational background in both STEM and the arts have given me an extensive array of experience in subjects ranging from Math (Calculus III / Linear Algebra) to Science (Chemistry / Physics) to Dance (Musical Theatre, Ballet, Hip Hop) to Cooking / Baking. Over the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a range of students from 1-22 years old, in many different contexts, such as an ESL and Geography teacher at Cornerstone academic academy, a homeschool science teacher, a dance instructor, and most extensively as a private academic tutor. I believe early childhood education and fostering a love of learning is crucial to continued educational success!
As this is an interactive lab-based class, learners will need the following materials for class:
Hole punch
Pen
Scissors
Pin
Pencil with eraser
4 dixie cups
2 straws
Playdough (if you have at home) or model dough optional (if you have extra)
We will be using a pin, hole punch, and scissors for our lab experiment during class. We will talk about science safety during class but please make sure that your student can use these items :)
