What's included
10 live meetings
8 hrs 20 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this 10-week semester course, students will learn the 2nd grade science standards, taught by a certified teacher. We will learn new skills through slides, video clips, discussions, games, and hands on experiments. This is a fun, hands-on, and engaging class! We will begin each class with a discussion relating to the lesson that week. The students will have an opportunity to brainstorm any questions that they have or would like to explore. We will then do some investigation together in the form of videos or stories. We will finish each class with an interactive experiment. The following topics will be taught: - Natural Resources - Plan and Conduct Investigations - Collect Data using Scientific Tools - Communicate Observations and Justify Explanations - Make Predictions Based on Observable Patterns - Coastlines -Seasons -Earth and Sun -Observe Dinosaurs and compare how physical characteristics and their behaviors helped them meet their basic needs - Electricity - Phases of The Moon -Observe and Identify How Magnets are Used in Everyday Life - Observe, Describe, and Compare the Properties of Natural Sources of Freshwater and Saltwater -Measure, Record, and Graph Weather Information - Record Patterns of Objects in The Sky -Distinguish Between Natural and Manmade Resources -Identify Basic Needs of Plants and Animals -Observe and Compare how Physical Characteristics and Behaviors of Animals Help Them Meet Their Basic Needs This will be taught using pictures, video clips, slides, discussions, and open-ended questions. The second 10 weeks course will pick up where this course leaves off. I create a positive classroom where students are engaged, comfortable, and eager to learn.
Learning Goals
Students will understand that certain types of questions can be answered by using observation and investigations and that the information gathered in these investigations may change as new observations are made. As students participate in the investigation, they develop the skills necessary to do science as well as develop new science concepts.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Learners and parents will be provided with weekly updates for the following week. In weeks that include projects, students may need to use scissors, tape or other supplies. To ensure learner safety, it is suggested that adult guidance is provided when using materials such as scissors, tape with a metal cutter or other materials that may need supervision. The teacher will be proactive in suggesting parental guidance from week to week.
