Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
**~~ESL students are welcome to join! We will use pictures and basic vocabulary.~~**

Hello Everyone! Thanks for stopping by. I'd like to start by mentioning this class has a broader age range than usual but if your learner is more comfortable attending with students closer to their own age please reach out.

Are you ready to learn? I'm so excited to teach you!

We will start with brief introductions before diving into our lesson. Today's lesson is about the digestive system. Your digestive system has an important job! This system turns the food you eat into energy for your body. You'll get to see some colourful pictures during a fun slideshow to start learning then we will do an experiment together. If you prefer to watch us do the experiment, that's okay too! We are going to discuss what happened during our experiment and why. Then we'll review what we learned before saying "see you next time!"

You will learn the answers to the following questions (and more):
Why do I need food?
Do healthy choices really make a difference?
What happens to my food after I eat?
How does food move after it's inside my body?

Students will take turns answering questions and applying examples to everyday life before concluding as a group that healthy choices are important. Learners will also comprehend some reasons why healthy choices are important for their digestive system! I enjoy student engagement and offer opportunities for participation as often as possible but time is limited compared to my playtime classes. I also encourage learners to post in the classroom so we can continue learning together. Hopefully you'll share photos of your completed play-doh mats!

‣ All registered learners will receive human anatomy play-doh mats they can play with anytime at home
‣ Experiment materials and information will be posted in the classroom but please message me if you'd like this information before registering :)
Learning Goals
When completed, students will comprehend the basic functions of the human digestive system.

Parental Guidance
We will be working with food and liquid during our experiment. Parental supervision is advised unless your learner is not completing the the experiment during the lesson :) Many students do choose to watch and they often complete the experiment when an adult is available after the lesson. This is also why I encourage classroom discussion both before and after our lesson together :) Parents- I'm here to make your job as easy and possible. Please message me if there's anything I can do to help!

Hi!

I'm Ms. Sara. I am so excited to be here. I have adored children since I was still a child myself. I have worked with children consistently for over 15 years. I live with my family in Nova Scotia, Canada on a small hobby farm. I have a Bachelor of Arts and a Human Resources Graduate Diploma. I’ve also completed Child Development and Child Psychology courses in my spare time… before I was chasing 4 children of my own! Prior to joining Outschool I was working with teachers in our local schools and desperately missed teaching children myself. No matter my educational background or experience, I have always returned to working with children. Knowing I am involved in a child's early education and social emotional learning is the ultimate reward. We moved to a rural area in 2018 so I closed my home-based preschool and began teaching online. This is my passion and my full-time, permanent career. Thank you so much for supporting my dream job! I love teaching and I am so excited to share my classes with all of you! I am an energetic teacher and a child at heart. My classes are often social and positive. During class learners will make connections with new friends and learn together as much as possible. Please reach out if you have any questions.

I'm looking forward to meeting your wonderful child!

Sincerely,
Ms. Sara
