I have been a science fiction fan ever since I watched my first Godzilla movie when I was 7 years old. I also enjoy reading sci-fi books, stories, and watching sci-fi movies and TV shows. This one time class is an overview of science fiction. We will discuss the question What is science fiction? and different science fiction topics such as space travel, other worlds, aliens, etc. , and how they are themes, topics, and plots in different science fiction media (films, TV shows, and literature.) We will look at the history of science fiction in literature, movies, and TV shows, and discuss how their stories are often metaphors for how science and technology can be beneficial and go wrong in our society. There are no required readings or viewings to do before class.
