Description
Class Experience
The performance expectations in first grade help students formulate answers to questions such as: What are some ways plants and animals meet their needs so that they can survive and grow? First grade performance expectations include PS4, LS1, LS3, and ESS1 Disciplinary Core Ideas from the NRC Framework. Students are expected to develop understanding of how plants and animals use their external parts to help them survive, grow, and meet their needs as well as how behaviors of parents and offspring help the offspring survive. The understanding is developed that young plants and animals are like, but not exactly the same as, their parents. In first grade, they build on what they have learned in kindergarten. Your child will learn more than just scientific facts. They will also continue to build on the skills needed for scientific inquiry, such as making observations, organizing data, thinking analytically, and developing problem-solving skills.
With over 20 years of experience in regular ed and special ed classrooms, I have much to offer in the area of science. I have designed many science units for children in Kindergarten-6th grade. I am also able to adapt the information for students who have special needs. I love science and I love sharing it with students and sparking their natural curiosity!
Students will need: Spiral notebook or file folder Something to write with Glue stick or glue For our second meeting, learners will need: 12 dried beans Ziploc bags 3 paper towels water
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
