2. Students will explore the properties of matter.
3. Students will discuss changes in matter and why they happen.
I have over 20 years teaching experience and have taught Science for the past 5 years at a private home-school academy.
No homework is required
Week 1: Paper, pencil, and a bag or bowl of ice Week 2: Cornstarch, water, measuring cup, spoon, and a bowl Week 3: Baking soda, vinegar, balloon, funnel or paper made into a funnel, empty water or soda bottle 12-18 oz., measuring cup Week 4: 1 cup half and half, 1.5 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tbsp sugar, ice, 1/4 cup salt, Ziploc bags 1 Small, 1 Large Week 5: a glass jar or tall cup, a spoon, cooking oil, blue dish soap, milk, water, food coloring, and honey or corn syrup. Week 6: A plasma ball (optional but really cool!) Plasma balls can be found on Amazon for less than $15 if you would like to purchase one. Also makes a great "end of course" gift for students to work towards.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners will be assessed informally throughout class through games and review questions.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
If your child would like to conduct the experiments at home each week, rather than just watch them, you will need to check the supply list for each week and have the materials and an area ready for them. Some parental assistance may be required when pouring and measuring. Week 6 we learn about plasma and create plasma by microwaving grapes. This creates a burst of plasma which looks like a small fire. If your child would like to do this at home, they will need close supervision. Students can also just watch week 6 experiment in class or use a plasma ball during the experiments.
