Class Experience

How to make a pH indicator out of cabbage.
Find out that chemicals can be eitehr acid, alkali or neutral to varying degrees
Carry out pH testing
Explain results of the experiment.
Making observations.
How to conduct an experiment carefully.
Science can be really fun.
no homework is set, although ideas for extension activities will be discussed.
a large chunk of red cabbage, a knife and chopping board to chop cabbage, jug of hot water, ice cube tray or paint tray, a pipette or dropper or tea spoon, several household items to test, such as wash-up liquid, lemon juice, cleaner, dishwasher tablet, vinegar, orange juice, milk, water - anything so long as its safe to use.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please supprt your child in chopping the cabbage, and soaking it in very hot water. Supervise your child throughout as this can get messy!
