In this ongoing class, students will be introduced to a new science concept or theme each week. Some examples of topics covered are: density, solubility, magnetism, conductivity, etc... They will learn and practice using scientific vocabulary. We will conduct several experiments each week using simple materials that can be found at home. I am a certified elementary school teacher. I taught science in a live classroom for 5 years and I've been teaching science on Oustchool for 2 years.
I will post the materials in the classroom one week before each class. **If you register after the weekly message is posted, you may not be able to see it in the classroom. I try my best to email the list to new students before their first class, depending on how last minute they register. Materials are usually easy to find household items. I also recommend students bring a notebook or folder with paper so they may record their findings each week! If you are ever missing any of the materials, just let me know! There are always alternatives, or you can simply watch the experiments and still enjoy the class! Week of April 28: Float Your Boat Supplies Needed: A large tray/bowl of water (you can also fill your sink and use that.) Tin foil paper A Styrofoam or plastic plate (we will be cutting it.) Scissors Coins Dish soap Optional bonus experiment: An orange/lemon/grapefruit A straw/skewer/toothpick Paper Tape Little toys
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Some of the experiments may require help from an adult.
