This is a 1-1 class designed to have a personal focus on the individual student's needs. The class will cover science at a level beginning with the student's current knowledge and abilities. It aims to expand their knowledge in all major areas of science, while being conscious of and working with any special needs and individual learning styles. Students will expand on existing science knowledge in a gradual way that caters to their specific abilities. The goal is to build up a picture of the world as a comprehensible place, built on the foundations of scientific knowledge, and to fill in any existing gaps or lack of understanding the student may have. The goal is that the student should feel confident that they understand all of the crucial concepts, providing a solid base for further learning.
I have a Ph.D. in physics and have taught science to children face-to-face in schools from grades K-10. I have taught children with special needs, including ADHD, Tourette's syndrome, and children learning English as a second language. I also have experience teaching university undergraduates and adults science.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Reproduction may be covered as part of the biology material. Because the course is individualised per student, parents may request a specific level of discretion.
