SCIENCE: Chemistry 100 - Labs & Investigations to Complement Chemistry 101
Science, Chemistry: (supplement to Chemistry 101) Students will complete labs and investigations on the topics being studied in CH 101. Together with Chemistry 101 this will meet high school homeschool requirements for Chemistry credit.
What's included
Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be expected to complete the provided lab report about their work from the week.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
This class is designed to supplement my Chemistry 101 course with labs and investigations to meet the requirements for homeschool high high school chemistry credit. Students will preform hands on lab experiments with things from around their house or do an in-depth investigation about something from the Chemistry 101 material. Students will be given a lab report handout to complete each week to provide to the instructor for feedback. Week 1: States of Matter Lab ->Explains the scientific method ->Lab experiment using H2O to examine all three main states of matter Week 2: Element Investigation -> Students pick their favorite element and complete a guided investigation on that element Week 3: Ionic Bonding Investigation: Why We Put Salt On Icy Roads -> Students will complete a guided investigation into why we put salt on icy roads Week 4: Large Molecule Investigation -> Students will examine the Lewis structures of large molecules to determine similarities Week 5: Scientific Naming of Common Molecules Investigation -> Students will examine common household chemicals and determine the scientific names of the compounds This is a flexible schedule course, meaning that there are no live meetings. The labs or investigations in this course match the material being covered in Chemistry 101, so students are expected to complete that course material first before attempting their lab or investigation for this class. Each week, a lab or investigation assignment will be posted along with detailed procedures for them to follow, and a fill-in-the blank lab report for the students to complete. The completed lab report will be uploaded to the classroom (either scanned or picture taken) for feedback from the teacher. There will be a discussion thread where students can ask for help from the class and the teacher. Students are expected to complete the lab report each week. The teacher is always be available via message (either in the classroom discussion or private message) and will typically reply within 12 hours, but never more than 24 hours unless extenuating circumstances.
