Have you ever wanted to start speaking Spanish? Do you love Science? Now you can learn both at the same time! During the class, students will practice speaking the Spanish words and phrases as they also learn about the world through hands-on Science lab demonstrations. We use simple materials that are easy to find. Our course sequence is: Week 1 - Baking Soda Boat: use baking soda to propel a bottle boat through the water. Week 1 Baking Soda Boat: * plastic bottle (empty) * baking soda * vinegar * straw * Scissors * craft knife - optional Week 2 Balloon Rocket: * string * balloons * straw (wide) * Tape Week 3 Popsicle Stick Chain Reaction: * jumbo craft sticks Week 4 Water Penny Challenge: * Penny * eyedropper * Glass, cup or small bowl * Tap water * Paper towel * Surface that can get wet Week 5 Elephant Toothpaste Chemical Reactions: * Empty plastic bottle * Dry yeast * Warm water * dish soap * 3% hydrogen peroxide * Measuring cups * Measuring spoons * Safety glasses * Large tray * Location for the activity that can tolerate spills (of hydrogen peroxide as well as possibly food coloring), such as a kitchen or bathroom—or an outdoor location * Liquid food coloring (optional) Week 6 Lava Lamp Chemical Reactions Part 2: * container * vegetable oil * water * food coloring * fizzy tablets like alka-seltzer
