Class Experience

Despite modern physics having a reputation of being very difficult to comprehend, this course first introduces, then dives into the subject in a manner accessible to students. They will have the opportunity to learn about quantum mechanics in a captivating and engaging environment. Students will gain insight into the quantum world through a popular experiment.

The class will begin with an overview of the famous cat in a box experiment: Schrödinger's Cat. Students will use what they know about probability to determine the outcome of the experiment. They will leave the class with a firm understanding of how the cat can be both dead and alive, how this relates to quantum physics, and the basics of wave-particle duality.

This course is on specialized topics within modern physics. The course will stray away from complex mathematics to be more accessible to students of all mathematical levels.

There are no prerequisites for this class.
