US Grade 1 - 4
Does your child struggle with or hate math? Is homework a constant battle? This course will help solve those frustrations. Prior to our scheduled meeting time, students and parents will be able to tell the me what they are struggling with and I will design the tutoring session around those needs. Having taught over 15 years of math in a full time classroom and hundreds of students, I know how to redirect confusion, stop-out misconceptions, and break down difficult concepts into small manageable pieces. I have worked with students of all levels and ages, and can design our tutoring time together to not only the target a specific skill or concept, but also adapt sessions to the student's best learning style. Some students prefer direct instruction, some like games. During this class, students will receive the tailored and individualized help they need to gain confidence and success in math. As I get to know each student, I will also begin to incorporate things into lessons that best fit their personality and learning style. Playing games, singing songs, and using props or characters will aid in learning by targeting the child's interests, making the lessons more engaging and interesting for them. The goal of creating a fun environment is to develop a comfortable, safe, and positive connection between lessons and their overall perspective of math as a whole. Students who have a fear of math or who have had negative experiences in the past will hopefully see those feelings melt away as we play, have fun, and learn in a positive environment. My math tutoring might include direct instruction of place value, decimals, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. I can cover any topics found throughout Common Core in grade K-6. Many kids love to practice though games, as well as picture based story problems or activities that reinforce the rigorous curriculum they are experiencing at school. I am happy to offer remediation or enrichment for any math skill.
Learning Goals
These are based on student need. My tutoring sessions are best suited for students in grades 1-5th grade. Students can request to focus on any concept within those grade levels as needed.

I have extensive experience teaching the full elementary spectrum of standards including the subjects of math, science, language arts, writing, reading, social studies, and art. My passions are in math and science fields, although I typically use a cross curricular approach to integrate all the subject areas into lessons. I believe in student choice and passion-based learning and am willing to tailor my teaching based on student interest or need. I believe all content and standards can be taught in a fun, interactive, and engaging themes, making learning much more fun and memorable. I have a strong desire to help kids reach their full potential and strive to provide opportunities for students to dive deeper into topics, go beyond the typical classroom standards, and develop a love of learning at an early age.
Personally, I am a wife, mother, and dog-mom. I love the outdoors and can often be found boating, fishing, or camping. I have a son, two step sons, and two enormous labrador retrievers who keep me as busy as my children! Education is both a passion and hobby for me.
