Scholastic proudly presents Branches – a unique line of books specifically designed for newly independent readers who are ready to make the exciting leap from leveled readers, but not quite prepared for a traditional chapter book. Your learner will need to have read - or have had read to them - the book that we are discussing in class, before class, in order to actively participate in the class discussion. Learners will improve their reading comprehension by engaging in a student-led discussion about the books, and by answering teacher-led questions that will assist them to think more critically about the books.
I am a native English speaker with a 150-hour TESOL qualification from Arizona State University and post-graduate qualifications in Applied Linguistics from Monash University. I am also a lawyer in Australia and I homeschool my own children, therefore speaking and teaching clearly have been a part of my life for many years, and now I am also applying these skills to teaching others. Other applicable courses that I have completed that pertain to this class include: - Reason and Persuasion: Thinking Through Three Dialogues By Plato; - Technology and Ethics; - ADHD: Everyday Strategies for Elementary Students; - The Clinical Psychology of Children and Young People; - Everyday Parenting: The ABCs of Child Rearing; - A Brief History of Humankind.
