In this class, we will read and discuss (mostly) fiction books about dragons. The book for that week will need to be read before class, and you will have two weeks to read each book. Each class will start with teacher/learner introductions and chatting before moving into the book discussion. Each class will not build upon each other, so feel free to drop in/out any time, or stay only for the books you want to read! This is a smaller class that's designed for lots of learner interaction and...
Learners will use their reading comprehension skills and will improve their understanding of how to participate properly in a group book discussion.
I am a trained public youth services librarian with experience in holding multiple book clubs and creative writing groups for tweens and teens. Book clubs are my favorite!
Please finish reading each book prior to the start of class, please!
Learners will need to access each listed book and have it read before class begins. All of these books can be found on Amazon for purchase, but I always recommend checking your local public library for them first. They're not necessary, but notetaking supplies while reading the books might be helpful.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
I recommend that parents check into each book's content to see if it would be appropriate for their child. As a general disclaimer, some of these books have violent and/or scary scenes of action, danger, and adventure that might not be suitable for all young readers.
