Class Experience

Understanding idioms and sayings can be the hardest part of learning a language. This higher-level course will look at various sayings from different parts of the Spanish-speaking world, parse them, and discuss the English-language equivalent - if there is one. Looking at these sayings gives a peek into the culture from which they came.

This is a fun class that my previous students have enjoyed. If there is time, we can also read Spanish tongue twisters or riddles! 

Some Spanish-speaking ability is expected for this class. If the student has taken - or is currently taking - a level one Spanish course, they are welcome to join in. We will look at grammar and vocabulary as the need arises. 

This is a highly interactive class, in which participants are expected to contribute any ideas and knowledge they have.

I am a longtime homeschooler (over 16 years and counting!), and an experienced, licensed teacher with endorsements in bilingual education and TESOL. I have also earned a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction in Early Childhood Education (birth through Grade 3). 

I have been speaking Spanish for over 25 years, have homeschooled preschool through high school in a bicultural and bilingual home for the past 20 years, and have tutored and taught all ages bilingually in schools and tutoring settings for over 10 years. I have graduated one, and continue to homeschool my other child.

I offer several series of Spanish classes, using familiar translated stories, native Spanish stories, songs, and poems. I teach practical, useable Spanish that can be used right away, and talk about familiar themes interesting to many children.
