Beginner - Advanced Level
In this class, I give private, individualized instrument instruction on clarinet, flute, or saxophone in a relaxed, comfortable environment. Typically lessons include warm-ups (long tones, scales, articulation studies), and music from an appropriate method book. Students are assigned music from their method book every week. Whether you're new to the instrument or continuing your studies, my goal is to foster your love of music through tailored instruction and a strengths-based approach. Most of all, I hope you'll walk away feeling empowered in your ability to express yourself musically. Hey Everyone! My name is Joel. I firmly believe in the transformative power of music, a belief grounded in my rich experience and nurtured through learning from the world's best saxophonists. My teaching philosophy embraces the idea that anyone can excel in music, irrespective of their age and the stage of their musical journey. Whether you are looking for an extra boost in school, preparing for RCM exams, or keen on nurturing a passion project, I am here to facilitate your growth! About me: I'm a multi-instrumentalist, composer, educator, guitarist, pianist, and woodwind specialist. I've been teaching for over 13 years and am currently the director of music at Simon Fraser Elementary School. I was previously a music specialist at Lions Gate Montessori school where I spent five years working within the Montessori teaching system. I believe in the importance of connecting with students at their skill level and adapting my teaching style to match the student’s own unique path of development.
