Welcome to Saxon Math 5/4 - where I will help you successfully complete your Saxon math book - and enjoy it! As a former homeschooler, and a seasoned homeschool teacher, I have 20 years of experience utilising Saxon Math. I find it to be the most comprehensive math curriculum available and I am excited to offer it to the homeschool community on Outschool. If you are looking for inexpensive places to purchase the text books for this class, please message me and I will be happy to assist. I am able to help learners with mixed practice work, lesson explanation, benchmark tests throughout our time together. I am also able to grade their work during our lesson time. I have a hard and digital copy of Saxon Math 5/4 to aid us in working together through each problem they encounter! Saxon math uses the spiral approach, which helps students build on their knowledge and incorporate the skills they’ve learned in future work. Focusing on algebraic reasoning and geometric concepts, Saxon Math Homeschool 5/4 teaches math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts. This Saxon 54 textbook covers concepts such as whole number concepts and computation; arithmetic algorithms, geometry and measurement; elapsed time; fractions, decimals and percents; powers and roots; estimation; patterns and sequences; congruency and similarity; and statistics and probability. Students will specifically learn to add three-digit numbers, subtract numbers with re-grouping, read time, write numbers, estimate arithmetic answers, divide with two-digit answers, multiply three or more factors, simplify fraction answers, use a decimal number line, and more. Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises), an introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which include 25-30 old and new problems. Which grade is appropriate for my student? Saxon Math 5/4 is on-grade level for 4th grade and for a 5th grader who may need to take it at a slower pace. Saxon Math 6/5 is on-grade level for 5th grade and for a 6th grader who may need to take it at a slower pace. Saxon Math 7/6 is on-grade level for 6th grade and for a 7th grader who may need to take it at a slower pace. Saxon Math 8/7 is on-grade level for 7th grade and for an 8th grader who may need to take it at a slower pace. Algebra 1/2 is often taken by 8th graders. Algebra 1 is often taken by 8th or 9th graders.
