Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
This is a fun and interactive course designed to support homeschooled students currently using the Saxon Math curriculum. However, it is open to all elementary students who are looking to practice their math skills in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Saxon Math is based on the idea of incremental development, which is the belief that students should learn math concepts in small, manageable steps, with each lesson building on the previous one. With this spiral approach to learning, students should master a concept before moving on to the next one. Saxon Math is known for this repetition and cumulative review, which is designed to help students retain and understand concepts.

In this ongoing weekly class learners will practice math skills that will support learning with the Saxon Math curriculum grades 1-3. Specific areas covered weekly include: arithmetic, word problems, calendar use, telling time, patterns, shapes, graphs, money, measurement, and more. As the course goes on learners will begin to practice multiplication, fractions, and adding and subtracting two digit numbers.

All games and activities for the week will tie together with a fun theme. Learners will see how math is important in all areas of our everyday lives! Each week learners will receive a two-page themed handout to go with the session. The handout very mush resembles a Saxon math homework page.

Hi there, I am Leah! I am passionate about nature and science. I have a BA in middle childhood education with concentrations in science and math. Since college I have worked with children from preschool to high school. I am currently a work from home mom, and I've been an online educator since 2017. I believe young learners thrive when they are learning what they want to learn. Think about a time when it was easy for you to learn something? What made it easy? I know it's easy for me to learn when I follow my interests and go where my curiosity leads me. Personally, I love running, hiking, cycling, skiing, and being outside as much as possible. I think my passion for adventure shows up in all my classes. Please let me know if you have any questions or class suggestions.
