Learners are required to bring the textbook and workbook to class to show me that you have the materials. I cannot allow learners that do not have their materials to participate in the class. The materials are listed in the "Supply List" section. Learners should come to class with questions they would like to receive assistance with, or what problems they would like to complete in class, within the lessons listed in the schedule below. This is not a teaching class, but an assistance class....
I have taught and tutored math for about twenty years. I hold a current teaching certificate in K-8 elementary school, with a focus on math. I am halfway to my master's in secondary math. I really enjoy math - it is very relate-able to food and money!
Please contact the teacher if the learner has any questions about the work. 1) "Practice" - Learners should complete every problem. The "Practice" covers the material from the "Lesson". 2) "Problem Set" - Learners should complete every problem. Saxon scaffolds upon previous lessons, so completing all the problems is important. Learners or guardians should check the answers in the "Solutions Book".
Required: 1) Saxon Algebra 1/2, third edition, textbook 2) pencils, paper Optional: 1) Saxon Algebra 1/2, Solutions Manual 2) Test booklet (if you are requesting a grade for the semester) 3) Test answer booklet 4) Calculator
Progress will be evaluated during the lessons based on learner work. The teacher may contact the learner's guardians as needed. Guardians are welcome to contact the teacher as needed. Progress will be evaluated with the Saxon tests if requesting a grade. Assigned Saxon tests should be completed without assistance from parents or other people. Calculators may or may not be used, and this will be stated by your teacher when the assessment is assigned.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
