Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner - Intermediate Level
I am passionate about providing instruction to help students master math topics. I taught Saxon math to my own kids and have 30 years of experience teaching Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, and Precalculus in the classroom and tutoring. This includes 6 years of online instruction. This experience has helped me learn a variety of ways to make math more easily understood. I am an enthusiastic instructor and I like to use available technology to make online learner better.

In class, I will provide instruction on the daily topics and offer opportunities for students to participate and ask questions. In addition, students can post in the classroom questions in advance, and I will either answer in class or in a response in the classroom. Students will be encouraged to complete example problems in class so that they can get immediate feedback. I will make every effort to ensure that all students have a positive learning experience. We will regularly play Kahoot games to reinforce their learning.

I recommend that student's leave their cameras on so that I can get visual clues on their understanding. This also helps them to interact and have a full educational experience.

Schedule (the weekly date is given based on Monday's date, but will incude two class meetings):

Week 1 Lessons 1 - 4
Week 2 Lessons 5 - 8
Week 3 Lessons 9 - 12
Week 4 Lessons 13 - 16
Week 5 Lessons 17- 20
Week 6 Lessons 21 - 24
Week 7 Lessons 25 - 28
Week 8 Lessons 29 - 32
Week 9 Lessons 33 - 36
Week 10 Lessons 37 - 40
Week 11 Lessons 41 - 44
Week 12 Lessons 45 - 48
Week 13 Lessons 49 - 52

This pattern will continue.
Learning Goals
In the words of John Saxon, "Algebra is not difficult. Algebra is just different." Students need time to learn new things. After class, each student should leave class with a foundational understanding of the daily topics.
Students will be prepared to complete practice problems on their own. I recommend that they complete the practice set (labeled with letters) as soon as possible. Later they should complete the numbered practice problems.
