💻 In this 36-week course, students will use the Saxon 5/4 math curriculum to master fourth and fifth grade math. This no-prep course includes grades, progress reports and tests. Perfect for students who need support to master the concepts. 🏆 My goal as a teacher is to transform standard Saxon 5/4 math lessons into interactive and engaging experiences. By incorporating dynamic activities, hands-on practice, and real-world applications, I aim to make math not just a subject to learn, but an exciting journey to explore. My focus is on ensuring that every student is actively involved, motivated, and confident in their math skills. 📚 This course is a comprehensive course that includes all 120 lessons, 12 investigations, and 23 tests. 📒 Learners must have the Saxon 5/4 textbook and workbook to take this course. The specific materials are listed in the Supply List below. 🎯 This course includes homework and tests. Progress reports and grades will be reported to families on a regular basis. Students are expected to complete the assignments outside of class. Students should expect to spend 1-2 hours per week on assignments. 📋 Each 50-minute class will cover 2 lessons. After every 5 classes, the next class will be the investigation and review class. 👩🏼🏫 Live class structure: 1️⃣ Warm Up - 5-10 minutes - This promotes mental math and problem-solving skills and sets the tone for the day's instruction. It consists of facts practice, mental math and problem-solving exercises. 2️⃣ New Concepts - 15-20 minutes - This is when the students will learn the new material for the lesson of the day. All the students and the teacher will work through example problems together. 3️⃣ Lesson Practice - 5-10 minutes - This provides practice on the new material. The teacher will closely monitor each student's work through an interactive whiteboard. The teacher will give immediate feedback as students work through the practice problems independently. 4️⃣ Mixed Practice - 10 minutes - This is a set of 25-30 problems that will be assigned as homework. If time allows, the teacher may do some of these problems together as a class. 🔍Investigations: Following every tenth lesson/fifth class, the students will complete an in-class investigation. Investigations are in-depth treatments of concepts that involve activities. These classes will also be an opportunity for the students to review lesson material or ask questions about previous lessons. 📝 Tests: There are 23 tests in this course. A test is given after every 5th lesson, starting after Lesson 10. 🧠 The Saxon 5/4 curriculum meets all 4th grade math standards. This course is for an "on-level" 4th grade student or a 5th grade student who may need extra time and support, or a student who needs to take 5th grade math at a slower pace. 🔑 The Saxon 5/4 curriculum covers a range of essential math concepts, including whole numbers, arithmetic algorithms, geometry, measurement, elapsed time, fractions, decimals, percents, powers, roots, estimation, patterns, sequences, congruency, similarity, and statistics. Students will learn to add three-digit numbers, subtract with regrouping, read time, write numbers, estimate answers, divide with two-digit results, multiply multiple factors, simplify fractions, use a decimal number line, and more. 🌌 Saxon homeschool curriculum teaches with a spiral approach. A spiral approach in math is a teaching method where concepts are introduced, revisited, and built upon over time. Instead of covering a topic once and moving on, this method periodically reviews and reinforces previously learned material throughout the course. This helps students solidify their understanding, connect different concepts, and retain information longer. The spiral approach ensures that students have multiple opportunities to practice and master skills at various stages of their learning journey. 🎨 For a list of required materials, please go to the Supply List section below. 📎 Access to class materials: ▶️ The teacher will screen-share the lesson materials. ▶️For in-class practice problems, students will need to access the Zoom whiteboard during class.
