Class Experience

The Salty Sea Turtle is a fun lesson to create. I will guide the students through drawing the sea turtle. We will talk about making an interesting composition by cropping the turtle and using more positive space. After drawing the turtle with two types of patterns, we will use a yellow crayon to trace our pencil lines. Then we will use warm colored crayons- red, orange and yellow to add a design on the shell. Warm colors help it to stand out against the blue water background. Then, we will add some green to the body. Finally, I will demonstrate the painting. We will start by using purple watercolor paint on the shell, and then painting the water a blue or bluish green. Before the blue dries, we will sprinkle salt on it to create a speckled texture that almost looks like bubbles. So fun and colorful!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! My name is Jessica Campbell and I was born to be an art teacher!
I mainly teach lessons that are a combination of drawing and watercolor. I have a degree in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz, and have been teaching art since 2002.
Not only have I taught in both public and private classrooms, but I also have run a successful art camp every summer for the past 15 years. At this point in my career, I have taught over 10,000 students! I am excited to work with even more in this virtual platform, especially now that my summer camps have been cancelled.
My teaching philosophy is all about building confidence in my students. I have developed lessons that are designed to be simple, yet very successful. We work step by step to create amazing projects that families will want to display. When a child feels that their work is valued, it definitely encourages them to take even more risks and achieve greater things!
I live in Tampa, Florida with my husband, two kids and a dog named Bacon! I love dressing up in silly costumes and running half marathons (at the same time!) Hope to meet you soon!
