Intermediate Level
Join "Ace the SAT Reading & Writing: The Ultimate Prep Experience" to enhance your reading comprehension, grammar skills, and vocabulary knowledge, all critical for acing the SAT. Each week, we will focus on different aspects of the SAT Reading and Writing sections, breaking down complex concepts into manageable lessons. Tailored for students aged 13-17, this course not only prepares you for the SAT but also boosts your overall language proficiency and confidence.

What Will Be Taught?

Every class is a new journey through the essential components of the SAT Reading and Writing sections. We will cover:

•	Critical reading strategies for comprehension and analysis.
•	Key grammar rules and how to apply them.
•	Vocabulary building through context and word roots.
•	Practice with real SAT questions and passages.
•	Test-taking strategies to maximize your score.

Class Structure:

This class is designed to be both educational and engaging. We will meet for 55 minutes with each session dedicated to a specific theme. Classes will include:

•	Real text analysis, ensuring vocabulary and grammar learning is connected to authentic uses.
•	Interactive discussions, where students can share their insights and demonstrate their understanding.
•	Games and quizzes to solidify learning and add a fun twist to mastering the SAT content.
•	Video clips to provide real-world applications and deepen understanding of word usage and grammar.

Teaching Style and Interaction:

My teaching approach is interactive and exploratory. I believe in bringing the world of high stakes test prep to life through dynamic discussions, engaging activities, and thoughtful exercises. Students will not only learn through:

•	Interactive Discussions: Where students can share their insights and demonstrate their understanding by working through concepts and practice test questions.
•	Games and Quizzes: These quizzes will take place entirely on Zoom with no third-party tools required. Students will interact by raising their hands or writing in the chat box.
•	Video Clips: The video clips will often be dramatic readings of passages or fun explorations of a skill to provide a different way of learning for students.

Learning Goals

•	Identify and Analyze Textual Evidence: Students will learn to find and interpret evidence within reading passages to support their answers effectively.
•	Infer Word Meanings from Context: Students will master strategies to deduce the meanings of unfamiliar words based on the context in which they appear, enhancing their vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Parents are encouraged to engage in discussions at home to further support their child's learning and appreciation of language.

Sources
This course will use a range of different passages and text to practice SAT skills. Most passages will be drawn from officially released College Board exams (accessible here https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/practice/practice-tests ). We may also discuss passages used in sample questions published by Khan Academy (accessible here https://www.khanacademy.org/test-prep/digital-sat ). If students need additional support with the words in context section, the homework will likely include reading long passages from 18th and 19th century literature. The typical passages that are assigned are drawn from “On the Origin of Species” by Charles Darwin, “David Copperfield” by Charles Dickens, “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” by Arthur Conan Doyle, and “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen.
