This SAT Reading and Writing summer camp is designed to prepare students for the digital SAT. We will target reading and vocabulary building as well as grammar rules. Before beginning the program, students must complete a practice test.

Class

What's included

10 live meetings
10 in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. I typically assign either a full practice test (focusing on the reading and writing sections of the SAT) as well as various skill-based activities to build up areas of weakness. The time it takes to complete the homework can vary slightly from week to week.
Assessment
Before starting the first meeting, students must complete an entire, timed practice test on College Board's Bluebook app.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This summer intensive program will meet twice weekly. If this does not fit your schedule, I do offer once-a-week programs and 1:1 support classes.

Class structure will vary depending on which practice test students complete for homework. However, here is a general idea of how a class may look.

1. Review practice questions from the previous night's homework
2. Walk through specific question-type strategies (such as how to balance a dual reading passage).
3. Practice drill-based concepts (such as word decoding or applying punctuation rules).
4. Complete a partial practice reading and writing SAT test for homework.

Below is a general overview of some concepts we'll cover. Please note that a number of these topics will overlap from session to session as students complete practice test questions (as the reading and writing questions are mixed within both parts of the reading and writing test). Students typically complete at least part of a practice reading and writing test each week.

SAT Test Overview & General Test Strategies (Time management, question types, and general strategies)

Vocabulary Building/Decoding Practice (Root words and common SAT Words)

Reading Comprehension (main idea, supporting evidence, theme, dual passages, poetry, and note-based questions)

Grammar Rules (including sentence structure, modifiers, verb-shifting, and punctuation).
