Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
If you think of SAT math like mini-puzzles, it’s actually really fun! If you want to boost your SAT math score or even aim for a perfect score, you’ve come to the right place. As an SAT tutor with more than 17 years of experience, I know all the tips and tricks to help make this part of the test a lot easier to handle.

We will review high frequency question types directly from recent SAT exams and work through them together. Common themes and methods, as well as shortcuts and strategies, will be taught to help students achieve the highest score possible.

Each week, class we will begin with a quick introduction. We will then look at examples of math problems taken directly from the test and work through them. These will include the most common types of questions and different ways to approach them.

Class meetings will cycle between these main focus topics each week:

Week 1 (Week of Dec. 12th): Algebra concepts
Week 2 (Week of Dec. 19th): Geometry
Week 3 (Week of Dec. 26th): Number theory
Week 4 (Week of Jan. 2th): Data and Analysis

Teacher expertise and credentials
Why, hello! Welcome to my classroom. Let me introduce myself. I am Melissa, teacher extraordinaire. With more than 17 years of teaching under my belt, you'll be sure to get the best and easiest methods for learning whatever it is you've come for!

My teaching background began with SAT/ACT/SSAT test prep 17 years ago, but it soon expanded to many subjects where I found myself teaching students around the world from elementary to post-university level. Nearly two decades of tutoring has allowed me to become a highly-skilled teacher in math, writing, test prep, and more. I have taught countless students (literally thousands!) primarily in math, English, government, political science, business, and ESL, with students from elementary to university level both in-person and online.

I hold a B.A. in politics and M.A. in comparative politics, both of which have extensive qualitative and quantitative work. I also acted as a research assistant during my Master's program. Since then, I've been teaching online so I can travel, but mostly now as an excellent way to connect with students during the pandemic.

Having lived in several countries, I love traveling and learning new things. Painting and music are also huge interests of mine.

As for my teaching style, it's all about making the student get engaged and have that "aha!" moment. I work hard to engage my students, and I love it when they get excited about learning!

Don't understand something? Don't worry. I can explain it 20 different ways until we find the one that works best for your learning style. Plus, I know a ton of easy tips and tricks to take the headache out of studying. The easiest way is often the best way, right?

Come visit my classroom for a relaxing, fun way to learn without the snore, the bore, or the pressure! If you don't see a time that works for you, message me and I will do my best to accommodate you.
