In this one-time class learners will prepare and bake these delicious holiday cookies. This recipe is a family favorite that I have been baking since I was a teenager and is requested by extended family every year...pssst... Santa loves these cookies!! I've enjoyed baking these with my children as they have grown. ***If you don't see a time/day that will work for your learner's schedule, please send me a schedule request. If I can make it work with my schedule, I'll do my best to open class...
Learn kitchen safety. Practice following verbal and written directions.
I have in enjoyed baking for years, especially around the holidays. My house is known as the "dessert" house at Christmas and my extended family looks forward to their "food" gifts each year. I am a retired homeschool mom. I'm a speech-language pathologist with experience in public and private schools, teacher/tutor and brain fitness instructor all with decades of experience. Over the years, I've enjoyed incorporating cooking/baking as a learning tool with my students.
No homework is assigned unless the learner needs to finish baking remaining dough after class.
plain flour, butter, salt, sugar, chocolate chips or any baking chip flavor of your choice, vanilla and almond flavorings (*Allergy Alert* If your learner is allergic to nuts, feel free to omit the almond flavoring and add another flavoring of your choice or only use the vanilla extract. It will be delicious either way), decorators sugar (any color you choose. Over the years I have started using white decorator sugar, plain sugar, turbinado sugar, organic cane sugar or dye free decorator sugar due to food dye sensitivities in our family).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please check the description for allergy alert. Also parental supervision at the parents discretion is encouraged since a hot oven and a mixer will be used in class.
