Between 10-30 minutes of practice work will be assigned between classes. Practice work will typically be a pdf that students can print or write the questions and answers in a notebook if preferred. Answer keys will be provided. In addition, upon request at any time, I can happily create a more detailed description of what concepts a learner has mastered and which they could benefit from practicing more (along with resources that might help). If a formal assessment (unit test) is preferred that can also easily be implemented upon request.Class Experience

Intermediate Level
First class is free with this coupon code! UBERL14LN16. Instruction will be given in a relaxed, fun and upbeat manner three times a week. Students will be rewarded often with verbal cues. The main goal of this class is to make math an enjoyable experience for each student. Students should leave class feeling confident and excited to learn more. An assortment of learning techniques will be used to meet the needs of each learner and no learner should feel left behind. This class is also designed to help with flexible and changing schedules. It is ongoing and you can cancel at anytime. As long as your child has at least a 7th grade background knowledge of math, they should be just fine no matter when they join! Questions from previous classes are always welcomed as well. Class will typically begin with a fun warm up activity (puzzle, video, game, review problems) followed by answering questions from the previous assigned practice work and then an engaging slideshow presentation led by the teacher. The students will be given time for some guided practice of what they just learned in that presentation. This might simply be completing some practice problems individually or in breakout groups, playing a game or even completing a hands on activity. Students will also be encouraged to complete some practice work before the next class to make sure they don't forget what they just learned. Concepts that will be taught throughout the school year (dates are tentative): Week of Setember 9th: Unit 1 – Real Numbers and Exponents Week of October 7th: Unit 2 – Expressions and Equations Week of November 25th : Unit 3 – Linear and Functional Relationships Week of January 6th: Unit 4 – Systems of Linear Equations Week of February 17th: Unit 5 – Patterns and Bivariate Data (Statistics) Week of March 31st: Unit 6 – Congruency and Similarity Week of May 5th: Unit 7– Geometry There's something for each type of learner! One of the best parts about being Sam's Math student is the many resources provided for each and every class. Posted on the classroom page for each session will be a short video explaining each concept, detailed notes explaining each concept, links to other online resources and fun games related to each concept, as well as hands on task cards to be used at home that are great for kinetic learners. Detailed reports on students progress will be given upon request for students that come to class frequently.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Utah Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I currently hold a Level 2 Professional Teaching License for the state of Utah. I teach a variety of classes that are appropriate for elementary through middle school students. My favorite classes to teach are related to math and science. I have two years of outdoor/environmental education in the field and have taught in the classroom for over 17 years. I have taught many age groups, ranging from 2nd grade all the way to 9th grade (7 years as an elementary teacher, teaching all subjects as well as 8 years teaching middle school math and science). My goal as an educator is to create engaging, hands-on lessons that are full of discovery and discussion. Content is important, but the ability to problem solve and think for ourselves is also an important component of my lessons. I have lived and taught in four different countries: the U.S., Ecuador, Venezuela and Mexico. I obviously love to travel and feel the best way to learn is through new experiences. I also enjoy playing the guitar, surfing, snowboarding, backpacking in the wilderness and spending time with close friends.
