1 hour per week. Between 10-30 minutes of practice work will be assigned between classes. Practice work will typically be a pdf that students can print or write the questions and answers in a notebook if preferred. Answer keys will be provided.Assessment
Learners will be given practice work with an answer key to go along with what they have learned for each class giving the student and the parent an idea of what they have learned and where they might need more practice. In addition, upon request at any time, I can happily create a more detailed description of what concepts a learner has mastered and which they could benefit from practicing more (along with resources that might help). If a formal assessment (unit test) is preferred that can also easily be implemented upon request.Class Experience

This class will run from September 6th to June 7th. Instruction will be given in a relaxed, fun and upbeat manner two times a week. Students will be rewarded often with verbal cues in an atmosphere that allows them to feel comfortable to ask questions and share ideas or just something they may be excited about. The goal of this class is to make math an enjoyable experience for each student. Students should leave class feeling confident and excited to learn more. An assortment of learning techniques will be used to meet the needs of each learner. Class will typically begin with a fun warm up activity (puzzle, video, game, review problems) followed by an engaging slideshow presentation led by the teacher. The slideshow may be the typical kind or one from the website, Nearpod. No matter what the format, in each lesson, the students will be given time for some guided practice of what they just learned. This might be some practice problems, working in groups, playing a game like Kahoot or completing a hands on activity. Students will also be encouraged to complete some assigned practice work before the next class to make sure they don't forget what they just learned. Each Unit will take approximately 3 weeks to complete: Week of Sept. 6th: Unit 1 – Algebraic Expressions and Integers Week of Sept. 25th: Unit 2 – Solving One-Step Equations and Inequalities Week of Oct. 16th: Unit 3 – Decimals and Equations Week of Nov. 6th: Unit 4 – Factors, Fractions, And Exponents Week of Nov. 27th: Unit 5 – Operations with Fractions Week of Dec. 18th: Unit 6 – Ratios, Proportions, and Percentages Dec. You might be asking, what exactly is Kahoot?
Kahoot is an interactive, exciting game that allows students to have a friendly competition against fellow students using their devices. Students can just click on the provided link and then plug in the specific game code to participate. It is recommended that the student is able to either split their screen or can use a second device while playing.
Supply List
A notebook dedicated to taking math notes and working out problems along with a sharpened pencil will be helpful for each class. Links to any practice work will be provided before each class and it is the learners choice to print it or have it pulled up on their device ready to work on.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Utah Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I currently hold a Level 2 Professional Teaching License for the state of Utah. I teach a variety of classes that are appropriate for elementary through middle school students. My favorite classes to teach are related to math and science. I have two years of outdoor/environmental education in the field and have taught in the classroom for over 17 years. I have taught many age groups, ranging from 2nd grade all the way to 9th grade (7 years as an elementary teacher, teaching all subjects as well as 8 years teaching middle school math and science). My goal as an educator is to create engaging, hands-on lessons that are full of discovery and discussion. Content is important, but the ability to problem solve and think for ourselves is also an important component of my lessons. I have lived and taught in four different countries: the U.S., Ecuador, Venezuela and Mexico. I obviously love to travel and feel the best way to learn is through new experiences. I also enjoy playing the guitar, surfing, snowboarding, backpacking in the wilderness and spending time with close friends.
