Description
Class Experience
Students will improve their basic knowledge of salamanders. They will also get the opportunity to improve their listening skills, following directions, critical thinking skills, fine motor skills and preliminary skills needed for better writing and drawing.
For my entire life, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I read countless animal books and magazines about animals and nature (national geographic, zoo books, fiction and nonfiction), and I still enjoy watching documentaries through netflix and amazon in my free time. I have spent several hours researching and gathering the material for this specific class. I also utilize the questions and suggestions that previous students (and their parents) have made to better this class for future students. We live in an incredible world full of amazing creatures, and I love to share my excitement about it all!
Learners may want to continue coloring and adding details to their picture after the class has been concluded.
Paper, preferably plain white Pencil, marker, or other writing tool Crayons, markers, colored pencils, or other coloring utensils, NOT paint
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There are several open-ended and critical thinking questions asked throughout the lesson to maintain engagement, and if there is time, learners will get the chance to share what they drew (and learned) about their penguin at the end of the class.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Salamanders can regrow limbs and tails. A short video is shown of this process, it is not gross or graphic. They are also carnivorous animals and another short video of the eating process is shown. Salamanders eat their food whole, so it isn't gory or bloody, but sensitive children may be bothered.
