In this one-time course, students will learn the basics on how to keep themselves safe and how to prevent accidents. Students will explore everyday hazards, how to use 911, and the fundamentals of first aid for mild injuries.

Class Experience
Students will learn about 911 and how/when to call them, the basics on keeping themselves safe and preventing injuries, and the fundamentals of first aid for mild injuries. Students will focus on everyday hazards. In addition to slides, videos, and discussion, students will be presented a series of scenarios in which they will be able to decide what they should do. Students will improve their understanding of basic prevention and everyday hazards. Students will also improve their critical thinking and decision making skills.
I am offering this class as I have a Bachelor of Arts Honours Specialization in Kinesiology and am a Teacher Candidate in a Bachelor of Education program (teachables include Physical Education/Health and Science). I have taken multiple classes in Medical and Athletic Injuries. I have also kept my First Aid and CPR C up-to-date. I have past experiences teaching children about everyday hazards and how to keep safe. As well, I have past experience teaching youth how to use items in a First Aid kit. Additionally, I am an athletic trainer for youth and competitive sports teams.
No homework is assigned.
Curriculum materials will be provided by a teacher. Students will not need to purchase materials for this course.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No formal assessment is used. Students will be provided feedback based on in-class participation and discussion, as well as their scenario answers that will reflect learning.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be learning why wearing a seatbelt is important, how to cross the street safely, how to call 911, handling hot objects, wearing a life jacket, playing safely, what not to touch in nature, etc.
