Class Experience

This space will be an informal place for transgender and non-binary students and allies to meet and do creative projects together. There will be one creative project that will be done as a group for the first 45 minutes and then students will be free to pursue their own creative projects during the final 45 minutes. During this "free period", students may also continue work on the group project. This will also be a safe space for students to socialize with one another in a supervised and structured setting. The topics will be student generated, but the format and flow of the discussion will be guided by the teacher.
Art projects will include but are not limited to:
Vision Board
Sand Art
Rock Painting
Self Portraits
Interior Design: Building your dream bedroom
Designing a board game
Creative group games and ice-breakers
Scrap Booking
Design an Award
Group Short Stories
Writing a poem or song
Friendship Bracelets

I encourage the students to explore different mediums of art and creativity. The classes will be guided but will not hold a hard and fast structure the way more academic courses are run. This is a space for students to relax and engage in a fun project while making new friends and receiving and giving support to one another. Students will also be encouraged to ask questions and explore topics that may confuse or trouble them in a safe and supervised manner.
This will not be run as a therapeutic group.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Sexual and gender identity are two very sensitive topics for children that I take very seriously. All discussions will be supervised and students will be encouraged to safely explore ideas that may challenge or confuse them. Parents will be notified if there were more controversial topics that came up in class. Parents will also be notified of any planned topics a week in advance. I encourage parents to contact me should there be any concerns. If a suspect a student is in danger of harming themselves or others, parents will be notified immediately as well as Outschool safety.
